Lazarides

Newcastle is lucky to play host to the first Lazarides gallery to be outside of London. The gallery brings a lot of art to the north east which would normally be confined to galleries within the M25. The gallery since opening in 2007 has had solo shows by artists; David Choe, Connor Harrington, Dave Kinsey, Candice Tripp, Angel 41, Mode2 and Zevs. The gallery also has the occasional group show, past one’s have included originals by; Banksy, Vhils, JR, Invader and Faile to name but a few.
Situated on the Quayside It’s a 15 minute walk from the city centre or a 5 minute walk from The Baltic, so really easy to get to. At the bottom of the page you find a map of the gallery location and also It’s address and opening times.
Some photos of what the gallery looks like;

Ground floor
Displaying prints and a few small originals from various artists. Around the back is an alcove showing off art books and some other odd and ends.

Basement
The walls of the basement have been used in various different ways throughout the course of numerous shows.
For the David Choe show the walls were covered in plasterboard (I think it was anyway) and the whole space was created into a work of art.

The space is also used in a more conventional way too. The Angel 41 show had the basement walls displaying canvas’s.

Mode 2 arranged various different shapes and sizes of cardboard on the basement walls and then set about drawing on them, using the cardboard contours to his advantage in each of the pieces.

Way way back in a dark corner of the basement there is now a screening room.
Showing short films from various artists.
Not sure what I’ve watched in here, although I do remember watching a short film by JR on his Favela project and also one by Zevs which was part of his solo show.
